Numbers

I knew it was going to be a busy long day, and what started off not so good, ended on a decent note and I was out of the office and treading through the snow storm by 6:10pm.

I made note of a few random numbers today...

32 - the number of subway stations I passed through on a daily basis (16 on my way to work, 16 on my way home)
11 - pairs of red Olympic mittens I spotted on my way to work this morning
427 - the number of facebook friends I currently have
2 - the number of blog followers I have (thanks Delena & Steve!)
80 - an estimated number of kleenex's I've used since it started snowing around 11 this morning.
12 - the number of times I checked my email/ facebook/ webpage during the course of work today
3 - the number of ice cream sandwiches pauly brought me home tonight!
26 - the number of inches my amaryllis has grown!

Accomplished Sunday

After a very busy week, I spent most of yesterday relaxing.  Well actually we spent all afternoon running around, and then I spent the rest of the afternoon/ evening napping. And although I had high hopes of getting lots of sewing done, I spent a lot of time searching things on line and planning out projects.

But I had big plans for today.  I got up at a reasonable hour, cleaned the kitchen, made some banana bread, watched some Olympics, cleaned the kitchen again, did some more looking at websites and projects, cleaned the sewing room. Took a nap, worked on a secret project, watched some more Olympics.  Made dinner, cleaned the kitchen again.  Watched the middle of the Hockey Game, watched the end of Amazing Race, and all of Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters.

I'd say it was a decent day.  Its going to be a busy week ahead.  I NEED to go to knitting on Thursday night, its been week's since I've been there.  And we are planning to have dinner with Mom and Dad on Friday before they leave for Dominican on Saturday.  Then off to Ripley Saturday morning.  And that doesn't even say anything about work.

A little glimpse of a secret sewing project I'm working on:

I should have gone to bed over an hour ago.  Heading there now.

6 years and 1 day

...the amount of time i've been working at my current work place.  Man time flies when you dislike your job.

I don't know if I've always "disliked" it.  I think at the beginning I was very happy to write slides and create charts.  But somewhere around year 2 or 3 things changed.  There are only so many charts you can make before you never ever want to see a media chart again.

My dad once told me I didn't ever stick with anything.  He was technically right at the time, I "dropped" out of dance classes, curling club, choir, drama club.  Other then high school I don't think I've done something for this long ever. I guess I can finally say dad I stuck with something!

Although its been 6 years at Zenith, this year will be my 8th year since I graduated from College. Unreal to believe its really been that long.  Where did the time go?

In that 8 years I've lived in 6 different apartments with 7 different people.  I've been through 5 boyfriends and stuck with number 5 for 3+ years now. I've been to over 10 weddings, and have 3 more this year.  I've welcomed 1 "substitute niece" and 1 "substitute nephew", and will be welcoming a real niece or nephew in-law this year.

And although I'd love to leave my job for something more rewarding and self-satisfying.  At the moment its not really possible due to me being too scared to leave for one, and second buying a house this year is my main priority.  So I stick to it, and although I don't always show up on time, i'll be there tomorrow putting in my 110% to get the job done.

Since Friday, I've pretty much been watching the Olympics and sleeping trying to get rid of this cold that's holding on longer then its welcome.

For Valentines Day though, we went to spend the day with Sam & Michelle as its become a bit of a tradition, while there I gave a go at the downhill slalom for the Gold medal.

But behind the scenes while I was so focused, this is what Sam was doing.

I've always wanted to...

... learn how to play the piano.  I've tried at least twice, but my fingers are too short, or I just didn't pratice enough, but I absolutely love listening to people play.

All last night and today I've been listening to the score from the movie "The Holiday" - and I'm particularly in love with this.  I could listen to it over and over. And if your reading this I suggest you take a listen, it will instantly calm you and perhaps make you feel warm and fuzzy instead - specially around the 3:02 mark.  You can just tell that in the movie that was the part where they fell in love.

ahhh... bliss.

We spent Saturday in Guelph visiting.  It was lovely, and it always makes me wonder why we don't have more days like that.  Maya took this picture of me, while I was trying to teach her how to play mario kart on the wii.

I'll post more pictures of our visit this week.

January Crafty Review

Okay goal was to finish one crafty project a month - check.  Actually this month I'm an over-achiever.

Completed projects:
- 1 chunky hat for me (started in December, but finished 1st week of Jan, please ignore ridiculous looking smile on my face)

- 1 chunky ponytail hat for a friend going to the Olympics!

- 1 fabric yarn basket for my knitting swap pal

- 1 pair of silky mitts (started eons ago, but finally finished up)

I also started a new project tonight hopefully to be finished by end of Feb, if not middle of March.  It's the Wild Thing quilt by Thimble Blossoms.  And already loving the way the blocks are going to look.  I'm using 2 charm packs of blossom by Urban Chicks for Moda.  I'm hoping the squares go together quickly.

Alrighty, making a tea and heading to bed.

Heading home from Montreal on Friday.  Very long day of meetings and traveling.  But tasty chicken sandwich and pasta snack on the way home.

Note to Self

Start using tags/ labels in posts to easy reference things later in the year. Also I think it will allow me to see what I've been blogging about all year.

that's it. Happy Sunday.

Floor view of our spare room my craft room.

After spending last week cleaning and putting everything in a neat and tidy order, during the week I destroyed it looking for something.  Good news I found it.  I have been contemplating cleaning it up and working on my mint green quilt but this was about as far as I got.

New Year, New Challenges, New Beginnings

Okay, so its been a month since my last post and its already mid way through January - that doesn't mean I still can't make some goals for the new year - right?!

First off, had a great holiday, lots of traveling, lots of great stuff, lots of sleeping in and relaxing! I even have a few photos to share.

I'm going to challenge myself like last year but this year I'm increasing the stakes. I'm going to try and set 3 challenges: 2 weekly and 1 monthly goal.
  • Blog something at least once a week (Technically I've already missed the first week, but I understand that I won't always make this goal - I'm okay with that)
  • 1 Photo of myself (or something around me) each week.  I've been reading a lot more blogs lately, and a lot of people have jumped on the 365 day photo wagon.  I've always wanted to do this, but I know I'd just never be able to commit, however I saw Hazelnuts 52 Friday's Challenge to herself, and thought I could do that!  Although, I'm just going to aim to take one a week, not necessary on a Friday.

52:1 - Happy New Year

52:2 - New Hat for Tim Cronin Memorial Hockey Tourny

52:3 - Blogging
  • Make 1 crafty thing a month.  This shouldn't be that hard either.  Considering I'd like to make more this year, including more quilts :) I'm going to aim for one more then 2009 - for a total of *at least* four.  Shouldn't be hard with all the babies and weddings we have!  I was going to work on this tonight, but needed some quiet time in front of the computer instead.  I'll work on my project for my knit group swap partner tomorrow/Friday.
So we'll see how 2010 turns out.  So far not so bad, on top of these goals, I've also paid off the remainder of my OSAP loans - woo hoo!  And we are meeting next week with our financial adviser regarding savings for buying a house this year! I think its going to be a good year, with lots of excitement and crafty goodness!
